By honesty, I mean complete and transparent honesty with YOURSELF and with SPIRIT.
I do NOT mean honesty that could hurt another person’s feelings (e.g. “That outfit looks ugly on you….”).
Instead, by honesty, I am referring to being able to see your own ego clearly (without guilt), and being in alignment with what you say, do and think.
There’s a quote in A Course in Miracles that I’ve always loved. It reads:
“Honesty does not apply only to what you say. ⁵The term actually means consistency. ⁶There is nothing you say that contradicts what you think or do; no thought opposes any other thought; no act belies your word; and no word lacks agreement with another. ⁷Such are the truly honest. ⁸At no level are they in conflict with themselves. ⁹Therefore it is impossible for them to be in conflict with anyone or anything” (ACIM, M-4.II.1:4-9).
Having internal alignment to a degree that you’re not in “conflict with anyone or anything” may seem like a tall order. But the more we lean in that direction, the more consistent we are, and the more peace we feel.
