When you ask Spirit for guidance, where does your attention go?

I want to share something about guidance I caught in myself… and it’s SO SUBTLE I almost missed it.

For years now, I’ve been deepening my relationship with Spirit, my angels, and my guides. And a while back, I noticed that when I asked for guidance, some part of me was orienting… outward.

I was relating as if the Holy Spirit was something and somewhere outside of me even though “I KNOW” Spirit is only within. But energetically, my attention was oriented as if I was asking for guidance from something outside of me. It was a subtle outsourcing of guidance.

My angels and guides ARE speaking. The Holy Spirit IS communicating. And it all arrives THROUGH my repurposed body… through my clairs (clairvoyance, clairaudience, claircognizance and clairsentience). Through my soul. Through the part of my mind that never left truth.

But I could know all of this and STILL subtly orient as if the Holy Spirit was outside of me.

For most of my life, asking for guidance had a geometry to it. I was here. Spirit was somewhere over there. And guidance had to travel the space between us.

What changed everything was this… I started to imagine that my body’s energetic central channel of light (which is the body’s “central meridian” in Eastern traditions) was fused and inseparable from the Holy Spirit.

In other words, A Course in Miracles says, “You are wholly lovely, a perfect shaft of pure light” (ACIM CE T-1.23.2:6). I would relate AS IF that “perfect shaft of pure light” was running through the core of my body.

From an energetic standpoint, the central channel is where my soul, my light, the truth of who I am is fused with Spirit, with my angels, with my guides.

So when I drop into my body’s central channel now (that perfect shaft of pure light), I’m no longer placing a long-distance call and waiting for an answer to arrive. I’m tuning into a union that is already complete. I can ask from within the fusion, and feel the guidance from the UNION itself.

And here’s what I didn’t expect. As this practice deepened, I finally began to FEEL what A Course in Miracles describes as the development of trust (M-4.I-A). Trusting guidance became so much more natural… because I was listening to Self.

I invite you to walk through my practice right now:

1. Give yourself an honest inventory. When you ask for guidance, where does your attention go? Are you very subtly externalizing the Holy Spirit… listening for an answer from somewhere outside of you? No judgment here. Just look (WITH Spirit).
2. Drop into your central channel. One of my favorite lines from A Course in Miracles says… “You are wholly lovely, a perfect shaft of pure light” (ACIM CE T-1.23.2:6). Picture this shaft of light as if it lives in the core of your body, right now. (We know the light of you isn’t truly inside a body… we’re using the body as a teaching tool, repurposing it as a communication channel.)
3. Ask from within the union. With your attention resting in your central channel, let yourself sense that this shaft of light is the True You, and it is fused and inseparable from the Holy Spirit (and your angels and your guides). Then ask your question from there… from inside the union. There’s no request traveling across a distance, and no waiting for a reply to arrive. The asking and the answer share the same light.
4. Rest here, and return here. Each time you ask for guidance, practice coming back to this place. The more you return, the more natural it becomes to live from the union instead of visiting it.

This practice has changed everything for me, and I hope it supports you too.
